Outdoor fun. Great food. Nationally known entertainment. Games. Crafts. Clowns. You name it, you'll find it at Falls Fest, Wichita Falls' largest annual celebration.
Held at Lucy Park on the last Friday and Saturday of September, Falls Fest brings together scores of organizations under the coordination of the Junior League of Wichita Falls to put on this annual explosion of family fun.
Beginning Friday evening, the park fills with thousands of people for the first of two headliner concerts (the other is Saturday evening, although local and regional entertainment is continuous on three stages throughout Friday evening and all day Saturday).
Need to burn off a little energy in that youngster? Thrill rides, dunking booths, cheerleading clinics and the nationally recognized Punt, Pass and Kick contest all are part of Falls Fest, along with dozens of other game booths. For the younger set, a children's area features storytellers, face painting, crafts and other fun activities in a supervised setting.
Once the little ones have been safely deposited at the kids' tent, Mom may want to head for the large arts and crafts tent, where everything from fine jewelry and oil painting to toys and country crafts can be found. Meanwhile, Dad can hoist a cold one in the sports area, where large-screen televisions make sure he won't miss a minute of his favorite sports team's game.
Want your sports a little more on the live side? Volleyball, softball and disc golf tournaments all take place at Falls Fest, along with the always popular Media Olympics.
And all around are dozens of food booths, featuring some of Texas' favorite edibles.
So mark your calendars for Sept. 28 and 29 so you don't miss out on the fun.
